The godfather of Korean free music, alto saxophonist Kang Tae Hwan, joins forces with two of his most prestigious compatriots- composer/pianist Miyeon and pioneer of eastern jass/Korean traditional music fusion, percussionist Park Je Chun, for a rare encounters with Portuguese innovative double bassist Carlos Bica. The quartet¡¯s cohncert wil be preceded by solo, duo and quartet performances.
Kang Tae Hwan was the first musician ever to play free music in Korea. His sax style is clearly different from anything I¡¯ve heard in either free jazz or free improvisation. You could say it¡¯s one of a kind. He¡¯s one of the improvisers I most respect

Carlo Bica is both a remarkable composer and musician who knows to mix his folkloric, lyrical roots with any modern style he encounters.

Woodwind/saxophone ace Ned Rothenberg has a formidable reputation as an innovator. Specifically, Rothenberg has been celebrated for his circular breathing techniques, as well as his experiments with overtone manipulation and polyphony. Rothenberg infuses solos of breathtaking virtuosity with a rare, peaceful patience.- LA Weekly
Maria Joao stayed the London Jazz Festival audience with an astonishing display of cathedral-choir purity and Tania Maria-style Latin scat. Coupled with the brilliant playing of Mario Laginha, this session showed her at her virtuosic best.
